World Alzheimer’s Month is an international campaign that takes place throughout September. As part of this call-for-action by Alzheimer’s Disease International, individuals from around the globe join together to raise awareness and challenge the stigma around Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia.
As part of a continued commitment to this cause and in support of staff members, residents, and the community, the Wilf Campus for Senior Living held a second workshop on September 22nd to train additional staff members as Certified Dementia Practitioners.
“With an in-depth understanding of the different types and phases of dementia, our staff on the Wilf Campus will be better equipped to provide compassionate, individualized, person-centered care for each and every resident,” says Jean Leone, Vice President of Operations.
“This training will continue across all disciplines. Not only will this education assist our staff, but it will also provide them with the knowledge and confidence to become a resource for families. ”
The training was led by a Certified Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Trainer for the NCCDP, Sheli Monacchio, of Van Dyck Law Group. Approximately thirty staff members have been trained as Certified Dementia Practitioners thus far with additional staff training planned for the near future.
